The answer to this question is honestly up to you and the amount of time you have till the desired event date.
1. Never too early, but when is the latest?
The latest to start planning will be 6 months till your event if you plan on having a rented venue or are planning on having multiple vendors. Newly engaged? Company announcement? Fount out you are expecting? You can start planning the moment you find out about the event. With corporate events, you may not have this much time. The hunt for a venue is the top priority. Consider a flexible date when there is a time crunch to save you time reaching out to too many venues.
2. Choosing the event date.
To choose a concrete date, a venue must be selected first. If your desired venue is not available on the date you planned, then you will need to choose a date that is available or a different venue that has your desired date.
What is recommended is figuring out what month or season you desire for your event. This will give you the flexibility to choose a date that is available within a specific timeframe.
The earlier you plan, the better your odds are at getting the date you desire.
3. Help along the way.
An event planner can help tremendously if you are in a time crunch. Planners will be able to know what questions need to be asked and guide you through the event deadlines. Consider a consultation or partial planning to make sure your event goes smoothly and you are able to enjoy the planning process along the way.
